Let’s face it, millwork is gorgeous! Beautifully crafted millwork is like fine art; it never goes out of style. It adds so much character and charm to any home and space. I love millwork! Can not get enough of the beauty millwork adds. On the project Her Office, we incorporated millwork to finish the space. Although millwork is beautiful, it can be very pricey. I am going to share with you how to get the look for less and why.
The office project started as a blank canvas. Four walls and no character what-so-ever. The walls needed something! Something to fill the space without having it look cluttered and busy. The decision was made to panel the walls. Adding millwork to the walls fills the space while giving that elegant classic look. Here is the tip for getting the look for less. Smooth out the texture!
The texture on walls is a no-no when it comes to smooth looking paneling. We smoothed out the walls to a level 5, meaning absolutely no texture. Smooth like glass!! Smoothing the walls out gave us a wide range of configuring the layout without working in the perimeter of the 4×8 standard MDF board. Having a wider range of more flexibility in the design also was cost-effective. Not having to use the MDF board, which adds up. Plus, the extra labor cost and material. After the walls are all smooth and sanded, next came the molding.
After the molding was placed, then the magic happens! Everything is prepped, primed ready for the final coat of paint. The result turned out so classic and beautiful! Not only was this a look for less, but also budget-friendly. Staying on budget is key when doing any remodeling project. This method gave us a look without exceeding the budget. In any design project, the budget determines where to save and where to splurge. This project was a total save!! More to come on Her Office project.
