We all sit on it! We all relax on it! A beautifully made bed with layers upon layers complemented by fully fluffed pillows. A cloud of blankets mixed with duvets and cozy sheets is all so inviting! I will share my version of getting the layered look and how to make a picture-perfect bed. I approach all bedding the same, whether it is my own home or for a client. I will share my favorite bedding basics and some secret tips.
First, I like to start with good sheets! The feel and thread count are important. I personally LOVE linen sheets. Yes, you can tell the difference! In my opinion, linen sheets are breathable and regulate body temperature. Then I use a duvet insert. A lightweight, preferably due to the layers. Next, a nice coverlet! Next up, decorative pillows!
I like to layer pillows on a bed and a few different ways starting from back to front. Option one is using a euro sham first, then the standard, and last the decorative pillow. The second option is a standard pillow first, then decorative pillows, and last, the decorative pillow such as a bolster. The third option is the standard pillow, euro sham, and then followed by a decorative pillow. For queen/full beds, my rule is five pillows and king beds six and twins 2 to 3 max. I always say less is more. Lastly, I like to add a duvet insert ( 2 for a fluffer dramatic look) with a duvet cover (that is folding in thirds like a letter) to the end of the bed that ties all the elements together. Here are some of my favorite items to dress the bed. If you have any questions, leave a note in the comments sections. Sweet dreams! XOXO
